Oyster restoration project creates new essential habitat in Georgia

Associate professor of biology at Georgia Southern, John Carroll, works with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and helped come up with the project to do restoration along the coast and to answer questions surrounding carbon capture.

“I try to answer applied questions, and they do reef restoration,” said Carrol. “I try to do research that helps give them information that might be beneficial for them planning their projects in the future.”

Many people are born and raised in Statesboro, but it takes a special type of person to fully excel in their environment, and leave a lasting legacy without being recognized. Kimmy Smith is a senior Public Relations major with a double minor in Communications and Multimedia Journalism. She was born right here in Statesboro Georgia, attended a local high school, and will be graduating from Georgia Southern in May.
